My Mission

Come on in! Whether you're at home, away from home, or your home away from home, I’m glad you're here! Let me introduce myself. I’m Mariana! And I am the founder of this non-profit organization! I’m here to tell you that together, we can be physically and mentally healthy despite our disabilities. This is a community that will connect our similarities and help us to defy all odds of achieving physical and mental health.

Have you ever found yourself jumping from sport to sport, or activity to activity, because of your disability or limitation? I could never find a form of exercise that was good on my bones. I tried everything I could think of. You name it I tried it. Soccer, I had to have a secret code with my coach to take me off the field when something hurt. Swimming, I could not dive into the pool because of the cable in my neck and the bumps in my arms. Cheerleading, was definitely not a good idea and was a nightmare for my ankles, as you can imagine, with the jumps and stradels. Zumba, was also a nightmare for my ankles. Running and HIIT classes, don't even get me started. Every activity caused me almost immediate discomfort and caused me to get angry at myself, and my body. For a couple years, I gave up on exercise. For those years, I did not feel healthy, or, by any means, happy. I was gaining a lot of weight and knew that my lifestyle needed to change.

When you are not connected to yourself, you start to lose connection with everyone and everything around you. I struggled with this. But when I sensed this disconnection, I tried working out again, but with modifications to the workouts that I was doing before that were tailored to my capabilities. After that, I decided that I needed a change in my lifestyle as well. Whenever I had pain, I adjusted my form. Whenever I struggled with my nutrition, I re-evaluated my goals. Whenever I struggled mentally, I looked inward and reminded myself that there are others who struggled as much as, if not more than, I do.

My mission is to change the way that we look at life. I use the phrase “Breaking Barriers, Building Strength” as our mantra. Our one hope is too promote disability accessibility in fitness and wellness, while also conveying a sense of empowerment and determination to overcome obstacles and build physical and mental strength.

At Moving with Maya, our mission is to empower people of all abilities to lead active and healthy lives. We believe that everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive limitations, should have access to safe and effective exercise programs that promote overall health and wellness.

Our team is committed to providing high-quality resources, including informative blog posts, engaging social media content, and helpful guides, that help people of all abilities find the motivation, knowledge, and support they need to stay active and healthy. We are passionate about promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the fitness community, and we strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

Through our work, we aim to break down barriers to fitness and promote a culture of acceptance and support for people with disabilities. We believe that exercise is a fundamental aspect of health and wellbeing, and we are dedicated to helping people of all abilities reach their full potential.

The healthy and strong individual is the one who asks for help when he needs it. Whether he’s got an abscess on his knee or in his soul.
